We reported in detail when Nissan India recently announced that it would officially unveil its Terrano compact SUV in Mumbai on August 20.

Here, we have all the available details of the upcoming Nissan Terrano, which might very well become a game-changer in the fast heating up compact SUV segment.

With the introduction of the upcoming Compact SUV, Nissan will resurrect its Terrano moniker. Nissan earlier sold a mid size SUV named Terrano, which was also sold as the Ford Maverick in some markets. The soon-to-be-launched Terrano compact SUV though, would have nothing to do with Ford and will be manufactured at Nissan India’s Chennai plant.

The Nissan Terrano compact SUV will come with an exterior styling that won’t be exactly similar to that of the Renault Duster.

Nissan India earlier released a couple of sketches that revealed a fair bit about the Terrano’s styling. Also, the test mules of the car have been spotted on several occasion and hence, we are pretty much well aware of how the car will actually look like.

The styling of the Terrano’s front end will remain true to the official sketch that you see at the top of this page. The Terrano will sport a new front fascia that will include a new bumper, revised headlights and a new front grille.

Also visible on close observation of the spy pics (that we have in next page) is a straight crease in the lower half of Terrano’s body. It is hence pretty evident that the carmaker is making changes to the sheet metal of the donor car. It may be noted that the Duster has an inverted-U like crease.

As revealed in another official sketch, the Terrano will also get a new tailgate, rear bumper and new tail lamps.

Another change that we have come to know of is that unlike the Duster, which gets circular shaped vents for the aircon, the dashboard of the Terrano will sport rectangular shaped air con vents. The dashboard also gets a differently shaped instrument console.

Speaking about the Nissan Terrano’s styling, CEO and President of Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd, Kenichiro Yomura, has said, “You can see from the sketch that Terrano has a bold and distinctive design that I am confident will appeal to our growing customer base in India, as will its driving performance and range of other features that will be revealed at a later date.”

The upcoming Duster-based Nissan Terrano compact SUV will share the engine options with the donor vehicle. Also, the Terrano is likely to be promoted as a slightly more upmarket vehicle than the car it is based on.

Hence, the Terrano will come with a higher price tag. Our guess is that the Terrano could be priced around INR 50,000 to 75,000 higher than the Renault Duster.
