The all new Suzuki GSX-250R has finally been revealed with detailed images brought to us courtesy Beijing based motoring portal Jiche. No prizes for guessing that the new GSX-250R draws styling cues from the litre-class GSX-R1000. The quarter litre Suzuki sports is a silhouette of its bigger sibling with similarly styled full fairing, the trademark, tapering headlamp, and a meaty exhaust canister. The new headlight is accompanied by LED pilot lamps on either side while the tail light is a LED unit.

The 15-litre muscular fuel tank gives the motorcycle a sporty character while, at the same time, providing a decent range. Adding to the sporty look is the new step-up split seat. The new GSX-250R looks appealing and can safely be called on the best looking quarter-litres out there. Standard to the segment, the suspension duties are performed by a conventional telescopic suspension upfront and a 7-step adjustable monoshock at the rear. Anchoring duties are performed Nissin brakes with a 290 mm single petal disc with twin piston calipers upfront and a 240 mm petal disc with single piston caliper at the rear.

But does the engine complement the sporty styling?

Cocooned inside the frame is a 248 cc DOHC twin cylinder liquid cooled engine that can deliver 18.4kW or 25 PS of power at 8,000 rpm and 23.4 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm which aren’t the best in class numbers. Its direct rival, the Yamaha YZF-R25, with its 249cc twin cylinder liquid cooled DOHC engine, delivers 26.5kW or 36 PS of power at 12,000 rpm. The Suzuki does get a small margin over the YZF-R25’s 22.6N.m of peak torque that kicks in at 10,000 rpm but the Yamaha, with its 166 kg of wet weight, is 12 kg lighter than the 178 kg GSX-250R. We never got the chance to ride the YZF-R25 so we really cannot comment about real life performance difference between the two but the Yamaha does get an edge over the GSX-250R on paper.

The multi function all-digital LCD instrument cluster, apart from the speedometer and the odometer, also displays fuel gauge, gear indicator, two-trip meters, service and oil change indicator, real time fuel consumption and a clock. The digital panel is surrounded by tell-tale indicators.

The Suzuki GSX-250R, on paper, isn’t a groundbreaking motorcycle and it would probably have an uphill task competing against the existing crop of quarter-litres in the international markets. Check out more technical specifications in the table below.
