The Chevrolet Beat has perched itself as a funky and attractive hatchback that offers a decent ride quality. The interior, with its motorcycle-inspired instrument binnacle and several other stylish touches is quite eye-catching too. Images of the all-new 2016 Beat has been doing the rounds, and looks like the Beat now comes with a more mature design but also offers increased practicality.

The international variant of the 2016 Chevrolet Spark (known as the Beat in some markets including India) is underpinned by General Motors’ all-new M2 platform. However, for the Indian market, the next generation Chevrolet Beat won’t be using this new platform, as it can turn out to be an expensive proposition for the American carmaker. The international variant of the 2016 Chevrolet Spark has been specifically designed for the developed markets and thus, won’t be making it to India. One thing that will possibly be present in the Indian model of the next generation Beat is a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

For India, the 2016 Chevrolet Beat will be based on the outgoing model’s M300 platform to keep the overall costs low. However, the existing platform will likely incorporate some new elements borrowed from the new M2 platform. The international model of the 2016 Chevrolet Spark gets an all-new, all-aluminium Ecotech 1.4-litre petrol engine that produces 98bhp of power. For India however, the new Beat could likely be offered with a compacted version of the Ecotech unit – a 1.0-litre 3-pot petrol engine. The diesel version of the upcoming hatchback will come powered with a 1.0-litre SDE mill; and both the engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
