Mercedes Benz G AMG

After 6X6, it’s time for a hardcore, Mercedes Benz G63 AMG 4×4

The hardcore, built-to-order Mercedes Benz G63 AMG 6×6 took the world by storm, but was a little big, too big actually- six humongous wheels full of boxy, vault-like, £370,000 Mercedes Benz G-Class pick-up. What we have here are some spy images of a 4-wheeler version of the Mercedes Benz G63 AMG 6X6 undergoing testing. Essentially it’ll be a standard G63 AMG strutted up in the wake of it’s six-wheeled cousin, with Mercedes Benz offering the best of both the worlds- mixing the relatively sane dimensions of the G-Class with off-road capabilities of the G63 AMG 6X6, but sadly the pick-up body style goes.

From the looks of it, the new Mercedes Benz G63 4X4 will be able to do perform all the land flattening antics of it’s 6X6 counterpart, like wading through a meter of water. The ground clearance will be lesser for the G63 AMG 4×4 though, and don’t expect the monstrous 37-inch tires of the 6×6 model here. The alloys will be all-new as well, while that lime green paintwork looks pretty distinctive for this monstrous Gelandewagen.

Notice how jacked-up the new G63 AMG 4×4 is, when compared to the standard G-Class in front.

Expect the G63 AMG 4×4 to borrow the twin-turbocharged 5.5-litre V8 from the 6×6 AMG.  With 536bhp of power and 560lb ft of torque on tap, it’d be a pleasure to hustle around the big brute, more so because it’ll weigh considerably less than the 3775 kgs that its six-wheeled cousin registers.

Cornering- not one of the G63’s traits, but rest assured she’ll be dynamically sorted for her size.

We hope a few examples find their way to our shore once it’s launched. Head to the gallery below for more images of the Mercedes Benz G63 AMG 4×4.
