500th Ferrari LaFerrari sold for USD 7 million (INR 47.73 crore), becomes the most expensive new car auctioned in 21st Century

The Ferrari LaFerrari was originally limited to 499 units. But following the earthquake in Italy last year, the Italian car maker decided to make one last example of the hypercar and auction it to raise funds for the reconstruction of central Italy post the calamity. The auction was held in conjunction with RM Sotheby’s and in collaboration with the National Italian American Foundation’s Earthquake Relief Fund.

The 500th unit of the Italian masterpiece, after intense bidding, was sold for a whopping USD 7 million (INR47.73 crore) which is five times the original price of the vehicle — USD 1.4 million. The previous record for the most expensive LaFerrari was set at USD 1.8 million. The 500th LaFerrari became the most valuable car built in the 21th century ever to be auctioned.

The 500th LaFerrari features a red exterior with a white dream line on the hood and rear windshield. The hypercar also dons a small Italian flag on the hood and gets a commemorative plaque. There would be no mechanical changes and the 500th LaFerrari continues to 6.3-litre V12 engine which produces 789 bhp of power and 700Nm of torque along with the 161 bhp KERS motor. Combined, the LaFerrari delivers a massive 950bhp of power and 900Nm of torque.
