According to new details the BMW 1 series will be larger and might go front wheel drive, the redesigned model will be based on the UKL1 platform, shared with the Mini Cooper and the 2 Series Active Tourer. The car will be reportedly available as a three and five door hatchback along with a sedan version.

The model could have a bigger cabin, hinting at a longer wheelbase, however will use aluminium components to reduce weight and improve fuel efficiency. the car will look sportier and sharper with slimmer LED lights and a sharper grille. Power could come in the form of 3 and 4 cylinder engines in various guises, while an all wheel drive M1 version, powered by a twin turbo 2.0 liter petrol engine, putting down 360bhp eclipsing the 355bhp A45 AMG could be introduced.

While driving enthusiasts will be up in arms, BMW is confident that these new front wheel driven cars will be as much fun as rear drive and most customers wont be able to tell. Cars like the Fiesta and the new Mini is testimony to that.
