2017 (Maruti) Suzuki Swift leaked; gets Jaguar F-Type like snout

Finally, the 2017 Suzuki Swift is out of the bag, courtesy a single leaked image (above). The next-generation Swift will be based on the Baleno’s lightweight platform, and word has it that even though the hatchback will be lighter, its footprint will be similar to the current model.

Styling is all-new, yet evolutionary, and the original Swift’s strong, popular design has been inculcated with contemporary touches. The Jaguar F-Type like snout with its chrome bordered, hexagonal grille gives it a low-slung appearance from the front, while the new headlamp clusters come with their U-shaped LED signatures, projectors and chrome trims.

Moving on to the sides, the Swift’s traditional floating roof gets more pronounced than ever for 2017, while the upper half of the C-pillars, along with the B-pillars, get blacked out. The rear door gets its handle positioned on the C-pillar, while the sides also feature new sculpting, with a wavy, broken shoulder line that moves away from the current model’s taut one. The tail lamps stay compact and familiar, but now get a 3D-effect appearance.

The interiors will receive an all-new dashboard, while the twin-pod instrument cluster is also fresh, and the rotary knobs look decidedly premium. Expect the India-spec model to feature Maruti’s SMARTPLAY infotainment system with Apple Carplay, Android Audio and MirrorLink compatibility.

For India, the new, 2017 (Maruti) Suzuki Swift is likely to be powered by the existing 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines. Speculations are rife that it could also employ the new 1.5-litre diesel engine that’s being developed in-house by Maruti, while the 1.0-litre BoosterJet turbo-petrol engine from upcoming Baleno RS remains a possibility as well.

A high-performance Swift Sport variant (above) is also on the cards for a late 2017 India launch. The Sport is expected to be powered a 140hp strong, 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, while also befitting from upgraded suspension, brakes and steering, along with a body kit.

The 2017 Suzuki Swift will come to India sometime next year, but it will be preceded by the launch of the next-generation Swift Dzire that has already begun testing on public roads.
