2014 Paris Motor Show: The Glitterati on wheels lined up for this year

Apart from the picturesque view that Paris has to offer, the French capital also hosts a motoring event once in every two year where automotive brands from Europe and all over the world showcase their best new cars for the coming year. The 2012 edition witnessed 1,231,416 visitors and nearly 12,000 journalists from 103 countries and the 2014 edition is expected to cross that number.

The 2014 Paris Motor Show is just around the corner and car makers are pulling up their sleeves to introduce the finest products from their stable. As it does for every edition, the Show will once again host an exceptional historical exhibition. This year the chosen theme is “Automobiles and Fashion”, in partnership with INA (the French Broadcasting Institute).

So what to expect from the European car makers this year? Here is the list of cars that would debut at this years expo.

Renault Espace

The 2014 Paris Motor Show sees Renault take the wraps off the new Espace. Renault claims that the crossover combines a strong design and seductive appeal and is based largely upon the concept car that was revealed a year ago at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Both the five- and seven-seat versions feature ingenious interior modularity and meticulous attention has been paid to detail with regard to the new car’s design and build.

Renault EOLAB Concept

Renault EOLAB concept is an environmental prototype with nearly 100 technological innovations designed to deliver ultra-low fuel consumption, of one litre per one hundred kilometres, whilst maintaining established B-segment levels of performance, practicality and affordability. The designers focused their efforts on three main areas: minimising weight, refining aerodynamics and using “Z.E. Hybrid” technology for all, a brand new initiative which permits zero emissions motoring during everyday use.

Peugeot QUARTZ Concept

The Peugeot QUARTZ Concept unveils a new vision for the Crossover segment at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. This next generation SUV blends dazzling design with innovative materials and a powerful 500 HP HYbrid drivetrain to create the ultimate premium family car experience. The strong, powerful and sporty style of the Peugeot QUARTZ combines the body of an SUV with the cabin of a saloon. Sleek lines convey a dynamic feel that’s further accentuated by short over- hangs and the dramatic 23-inch wheels sitting inside generously rounded wheel arches. At 4.5m long and 2.06m wide, the QUARTZ has an athletic stance on the road that’s further emphasised by its long bonnet and louvres that help improve airflow to the engine.

Peugeot EXALT Concept

Along with Quartz concept, the French car maker will also showcase a large saloon prototype, EXALT Concept. The bodywork features shades of grey that emanate from the bare steel covering the majority of the exterior to the distinctive ‘Shark Skin’ rear end. Inside, the ‘Newspaper Wood’ finish borrows (literally) from the pages of major business dailies. The tailgate features an ingenious opening mechanism and provides easy access to the HYbrid-kick, an innovative electric scooter, stowed below the boot floor. This new automotive experience is powered by a petrol-electric HYbrid4 drivetrain with a combined output of 340hp.

Peugeot 208 HYbrid Air 2L Demonstrator

Continuing its proactive approach to lowering fuel consumption and emissions, Peugeot is showcasing its 208 HYbrid Air 2L Demonstrator at the Paris Motor Show. The 2L stands for two litres per 100km, equivalent to 141mpg, and is based on a production version of the Peugeot 208 1.2-litre PureTech 82hp 5-seater Hatchback.

Peugeot 308 GT

Peugeot will also introduce a dynamic new flagship based on the highly successful 308. This new flagship will be named as 308 GT. Available in Hatchback and SW body styles, both models offer assertive new styling, outstanding performance-oriented engines and bespoke chassis modifications to create a lowered ride height.

The new Peugeot 308 GT retains all the elements which have made the 308 range such a huge commercial hit throughout Europe. That includes the striking exterior design, innovative Peugeot i-Cockpit cabin, versatile interior and high perceived quality. Remarkable engine efficiency, with high fuel economy and ultra-low emissions, is also part of the 308 GT package.

New Peugeot Euro 6 compliant engines

Peugeot is rising to the challenge of defining ever-greener motoring by unveiling new Euro 6-compliant versions of its most popular models. Fitted with technically advanced three-cylinder PureTech and 1.6-litre THP four-cylinder petrol engines, and with ultra-low emission BlueHDi diesels, all are equipped with Stop & Start (S&S)technology. They make Peugeot vehicles among the most environmentally efficient models in their respective categories. Each engine is coupled with Peugeot’s highly effective, robust third-generation Efficient Automatic Transmission 6 (EAT6) transmission. Even more impressive is the fact that this performance has been achieved while ensuring the highest standards of driving pleasure, in keeping with Peugeot’s core philosophy.

Citroën C4 Cactus AIRFLOW 2L concept

Faced with environmental requirements and economic pressures, many customers today see fuel consumption as a key concern. As a result, Citroën is applying its creativity and technology to a new challenge with the C4 Cactus AIRFLOW 2L concept, which will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. With the C4 Cactus AIRFLOW 2L concept, Citroën delivers breakthrough fuel consumption of 2l/100 km (over 141mpg).

Citroën C1 URBAN RIDE

C1 URBAN RIDE concept – an exclusive at the Paris Motor Show – illustrates the potential for personalising this city car with new go-anywhere looks. The lively, fun personality of New C1 is enhanced by SUV-inspired styling features to underline its character and strong nature.

DS DIVINE DS and DS 3 INES DE LA FRESSANGE PARIS CONCEPT

A new French company named DS will make its debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Officially created on 1 June, DS has a clear-cut ambition: to return the French automotive industry to the ranks of the premium carmakers. DS will present two concept cars at the Paris show, DIVINE DS and DS 3 INES DE LA FRESSANGE PARIS CONCEPT, which herald the future of the brand. DS will also show its latest production models, DS 3 and DS 3 Cabrio with their new front light signature, as well as a range of new connected services. The DS stand in Hall 1 is designed to immerse visitors in the DS universe, which is characterised by a distinctive blend of refinement, technology and elegance.

The DIVINE DS concept is a four-door compact car, it features sleek, powerful styling accentuated with striking graphic signatures. The DS Styling Centre and the Ines de La Fressange Paris fashion house have joined forces to develop two unique and attractive concepts, one based on DS 3, the other on DS 3 Cabrio. With these two concepts, DS meets the world of fashion, resulting in a striking array of graphics, materials and colours.

Ferrari 458 Speciale A

Ferrari has announced the Paris Motor Show world debut of the 458 Speciale A (A as in Aperta which means “open” in Italian). The new limited edition special series is a celebration of the dazzling success of the various versions of the 458, a model that has collected an array of international motoring media awards and track victories, not least a double WEC title and category wins in classic endurance races, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring. The 458 Speciale A sports the most powerful naturally-aspirated road-going V8 engine ever built by Ferrari. The 4497cc engine punches out a massive 605 cv (596.7 HP) of power and 540 Nm of torque and yet only generates 275 g/km of CO2 emissions. The new car sprints from 0-100 km/h in just 3.0 seconds.

Audi TT Roadster

Audi have again been applied to the classic concept of the open-top two-seater sports car, and the result – the all-new TT Roadster – is set to bring its thoroughly contemporary perspective on the time-honoured theme to the Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris. Featuring 184PS and 380 Nm (280.3 lb/ft) of torque, the 2.0 TDI ultra combines great strength with remarkable restraint where economy is concerned – it can return up to 65.7mpg, which equates to CO2 emissions of 114 grams per kilometer. The 2.0 TFSI produces 230PS and 370 Nm (272.9 lb‑ft) of torque in the TT Roadster; in the TTS Roadster, output rises to 310PS and 380 Nm (280.3 lb‑ft). The top model sprints from 0-62mph in just 4.9 seconds on its way to an electronically governed top speed of 155mph.

Volkswagen Golf Alltrack

Europe’s largest carmaker is celebrating the world premiere of this all-wheel drive model at the Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris next week (2 to 19 October). Technical and visual properties of the Golf Alltrack include a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system, higher ground clearance, wheel arch mouldings and flared side sills that offer body protection, newly designed bumpers and many other independent exterior and interior features.

Power units are a TSI petrol engine and three diesel engines, all powerful turbocharged direct injection units. The 1.8-litre TSI with 180 PS is an entirely new addition to the Golf range. Diesel units will comprise a 1.6-litre TDI with 110 PS, plus two 2.0-litre TDI engines with 150 and 184 PS. The versions with 180 PS and 184 PS transfer their power to the all-wheel drive system via a standard six-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG).

Jaguar XE

Both Stella and Jaguar represent the best in British design and have a shared commitment to modernity, performance and innovation, and the FEEL XE Experience is an expression of this design philosophy. The FEEL XE Experience marks the next phase in the XE reveal, where Jaguar will announce full details of the entire XE range at the Paris Motor Show, from the exceptionally efficient 99g/km E-Performance model to the thrilling 250km/h supercharged S.

MINI 5-Door Hatch

An entirely new body style for the range, MINI’s signature exterior design language has been authentically adapted for the new model. The two rear doors enhance its versatility and, coupled with increased interior space, its appeal to a fresh group of customers who will further expand the MINI family. The MINI 5-Door Hatch will be available in six model variants with the choice of both petrol and diesel engines, featuring MINI’s innovative TwinPower Turbo Technology.

MINI Superleggera Vision

MINI and Touring Superleggera, the tradition-steeped design and coach building house based in Milan, have brought the MINI Superleggera Vision to the UK for the first time at the highly exclusive Salon Privé. The MINI Superleggera Vision is on the one hand a classic roadster – a compact and agile two-seater – expressing the most minimalist and emotional style of motoring; and on the other hand its electric drivetrain gives the car distinctly modern driving dynamics. In collaboration with MINI, Touring Superleggera has designed and built an elaborately crafted, unique model which blends the tradition of classic coachwork construction with the MINI’s authentic British styling to create timeless aesthetic appeal.
