We reported in detail when German luxury car maker Mercedes Benz recently announced that it will soon launch as many as three new variants of the new 2014 Mercedes S Class. The three upcoming variants will join the standard and the long wheelbase variants of the new S Class. The first of the upcoming three variants could be the S Class Coupé that might make its public debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Another upcoming variant of the S Class will be an even longer model that will be the successor of the Maybach. This variant will be considerably longer and more luxurious than the S Class LWB. The S Class EWB (Extended Wheelbase) will see lock horns with the ultra luxurious Rolls Royce Ghost. There is nothing surprising about this as even the RR Ghost shares a lot with the 7 Series sedan.

The upcoming S Class EWB has been codenamed the X222 and could be as much as 35 cms longer than the long wheelbase variant (codename V222,). The V222, in turn, is 13 cms longer than the standard variant (W222).

The Mercedes S Class EWB (X222) could make its official debut at the Shanghai Motor Show that will be held in the last week of April.

Also in the pipeline is a Pullman variant of the S Class that will have as many as 3 rows of seats. The Pullman has been codenamed the VV222 and will be 100cms longer than the standard variant.
