Jeep Compass to point towards India on April 12

Assembled at Fiat’s facility in Ranjangaon near Pune, the much awaited Jeep Compass is about to be unveiled in India on April 12, 2017. Sort of a scaled down Grand Cherokee, the Jeep Compass is the “Most capable compact SUV ever with the most advanced 4×4 systems in its class,” according to the manufacturer. Apparently, FCA will launch the Jeep Compass in petrol, diesel, automatic and 4×4 variants in India. Prices could start from the Rs. 18 lakh mark and could go all the way up to Rs 25 lakh. If that is how it turns out to be, the Jeep Compass could soon become the next hot selling SUV in no time.

Elsewhere, the Jeep Compass is sold with an option of five engines – three petrol and two diesel. Out of these, India will get a petrol and a diesel powertrain in manual and automatic transmission options. Rumor is that the diesel could be a 2.0-liter Multtijet, rated for an output of 170 hp and 350 Nm, while the petrol could be the 1.4-liter Multiair, good for 140 hp.

The 2017 Jeep Compass gets two advanced 4×4 systems, each of which can send 100 percent of available torque to any one wheel. The Jeep Active Drive – SelecTerrain 4×4 system as they call it, is claimed to offer the best four-wheel-drive performance on- or off-road and in all sorts of weather condition. The Compass features a disconnecting rear axle and power take-off unit (PTU), in order to provide 4×4 models with enhanced fuel economy. Jeep Active Drive SelecTerrain 4×4 system instantly engages when 4×4 traction is needed.

On the inside, the 2017 Jeep Compass gets a premium interior with sculpted surfaces and great attention to detail. The center console houses a touchscreen display, a feature that would vary according to the market. The center console allows control of features such as gear-shift selection, Selec-Terrain controls, engine stop-start (ESS) controls and climate and volume control knobs.

Media charging and connectivity ports are accessible within the cubby bin. For India, expect the cabin to undergo a few changes to suit local taste.
