Spaniard Marc Marquez may have stolen the limelight from Valentino Rossi, but the Italian superstar still rules the hearts of MotoGP fans worldwide. After a dismal performance with Ducati for a couple of seasons, and a reasonably good season with Yamaha, the Doctor has set his sights on the 2015 MotoGP premiere class title.

The latest M1 motorcycle looks promising – it has incorporated the seamless transmission for smoother cornerning, and the timings posted at Sepang and Qatar free-practice are also quite encouraging for the Yamaha team. We are all looking forward to the Qatar MotoGP slated to take place on the 29th of March with great anticipation.

In the meantime, the Doctor, in an interview to an Italian magazine has talked about a few things we didn’t know about him earlier. Here we have some excerpts from this interview where Rossi talks about his love, his respect for Marcquez, and his desire to have a son

Rossi is very positive on the pre-race free-practice results and testing, he believes that they were quite fast in Sepang and Qatar. “The M1 has improved, it is the most important thing and the new season will be very tight, with many riders capable of being fast” Rossi says

Yamaha have introduced the seamless transmission to their MotoGP motorcycle for the first time. Rossi believes that the system will help, but doesn’t offer a huge advantage. “It is an improvement and a free benefit, you do not lose anything, and it does not have any negative impact” he says.

An important statement Rossi makes is about the young Marcquez, who’s been running away with almost everything for the past couple of years. When asked whether he thinks he could have beaten him if he was 20 years younger, a humble and respectful Rossi says “I’d be worried. And I would not be sure if could beat him. I would definitely have enjoyed confronting him at his own age! Although, frankly, as of now I feel as fit as I have ever been”

About his future prospects, and continuing with his MotoGP career, Rossi is non-committal “At the moment I do not look farther than the next two years. In 2016 my contract ends, and a lot of things will change – regulation, tires, electronics. It will be interesting to see what happens next. This is why I have not planned in advance”

On the personal front, Rossi’s relationship with his fiancée Linda seems to be working out very well. He is not very sure about marriage as yet, but when asked about wanting to have a kid, he expresses a desire to have an heir in the next ten years. “Let’s say that in the next 10 years I want a son” he said.

His rapport with Lorenzo at Yamaha also seems to have improved, even if it’s not the most cordial of the relationships we have seen between MotoGP team riders. He believes that Lorenzo is a tough rider to beat “Jorge is a strong rider and remains an opponent to beat. I must say, though, that it is interesting to develop the bike with him, because it can give interesting clues. Surely we speak, we manage to face each other. It is nice to see how often we say the same things, coming from different reasoning”

Rossi wants to finish the 2015 season on a winning note, and the most important thing for him this season would be to “Not throw away points.”

We wish the ace rider all the luck for the 2015 season. Sure as hell, we’d be rooting for him when the season gets underway on 29th March in Qatar
