Tom Cruise SRK MI Dilwale

Here’s how Shah Rukh Khan starrer DILWALE will steal hearts..er..scenes from the West

A Bollywood blockbuster isn’t complete without some “inspiration” from across the seas. Dilwale, starring Kajol, Shah Rukh Khan, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon (psst..she’s cute) in the lead roles and due for a 18th December 2015 release, is no different, as the official trailer reveals.

Director Rohit Shetty has grown out of flying Mahindra Scorpios, and his latest flick promises some hot metal, which includes Audis, Porsches, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Jaguars, Chryslers, Chevy Corvettes and Ford Mustangs – of course, the cheapest of the lot spend most of their reel time performing mid-air acrobatics.

Two of the scenes aired in the trailer, however, couldn’t be spared from our ribbing. The first includes Shah Rukh and Kajol “car dancing” and giving each other intense stares after a testosterone fuelled chase.  Well, the whole sequence screams Mission Impossible II (2000), specifically the scene (clip below) where Tom Cruise (Ethan Hunt) and Thandie Newton (Nyah) get involved in a similar situation, not before Nyah’s Audi TT Roadster gets trapped in the rocks at the edge of a sheer cliff drop.

The second scene involves Varun Dhawan and his riced BMW 5-Series, wherein he drifts the car around a roundabout with an inch to spare between him and the drop to the sea. Clear “inspiration” comes from BMW’s M4 commercial, dubbed the “Ultimate Racetrack” (clip below), where the M-car is being drifted atop a digitally generated aircraft carrier sailing the high seas.

Dilwale is produced by Gauri Khan, SRK’s wife, while music has been taken care of by Pritam. We’ll leave some other publication to report the musical plagiarism then. Till then, have a go at Dilwale’s first official trailer:
