While the craft of transforming cars into weapon wielding, planet saving robots, some even having a sense of humour, is best left to Michael Bay and his team, here’s something less virtual that comes close. Turkish company Letrons has presented their latest creation – a BMW 3 Series based real-life Transformer. The video shows a seemingly innocuous BMW slowly driving through an empty parking lot, coming to halt, and then suddenly opening up its innards to transform itself into an Autobot like mechanical personality.

Yeah, the transformation is a bit slow, full of fake robotic noises and even clunky at times, but outside a theatre, when was the last time you saw something like this? There’s no word yet on the specifics, but it sure ain’t using technology from Cybertron. It’s no more than an expensive toy using earthly mechanisms, and still needs some work, but it’s still quite cool. Letrons is also tight lipped about the price, as well as its availability.

As for the virtual deal, the Transformers franchise will be back on screen next year with the Transformers: The Last Knight. The movie, featuring impressive machinery like a sixth-generation, modified Chevy Camaro as Bumblebee, and a bad-ass, 2015 Ford Mustang police car as Barricade, will be released on June 23, 2017.
