Civic Type R Nurburgring record

The new Honda Civic Type R is already making a lot of news with its sumptuous power and performance figures. And now Honda has officially revealed that the iconic model’s development model is the fastest FWD (front wheel drive) hatchback around the Green Hell. The development version of the R spec Civic has lapped the Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 50.63 seconds. That time is well ahead of the current record holder, the Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy-R, which did the run in 7 minutes and 54.36 seconds.

The tech specs of the car read 310 PS and 400 Nm from a 2.0 litre VTEC Turbo engine. Top speed is rated at 270 km/h while the 0-100 km/h time of 5.7 seconds.

Now before the naysayers start whining about the timing not being that of a production car, let us clarify a few things. The feat was achieved by the model late in the testing phase, where a production-spec prototype was used for the run. So while the a/c, passengers’ seat and some other infotainment systems were taken off, the weight of the roll cage made it as heavy as the production specs car.
